oh and just to add, Companies doing things like that is what leads people to pirate and mod stuff. Why shouldn't I be allowed to play and use what everyone else is?
You know, as a note, I've already touched on and linked to a story regarding the DSi being region locked, as well as the reason on why Nintendo choose to pull such a move. And contrary to popular belief, regional locks do not lead people to pirate and/or mod their systems. Most of that comes from personal greed in the form of not wanting to pay in order to play a game. You can rectify it however you want, but it still boils down to the same thing.
Anyway, just to clarify it again, only DSi and DSiWare games will be affected by the regional locks. The DSi has been designed with internet connectivity and integration in mind, to which is being tailored for the region the system is being released in. The system is also to make use of parental locks as well, more than likely being based on whatever rating system is in use for video games within the region it's released in as well. The system is to feature a built in browser, and apparently Kojima...
Wait, I wasn't suppose to drop that just yet, but yeah. Regional locks due to net and rating stuff only for DSi and DSiWare, built in browser, coming well into 2009 to the US and europe.

I highly disagree with that. I my self really enjoy a lot of Import games, Movies, Music and so forth. And there have been a lot of great games from other countries that have never been brought to the US. My biggest gripe is with "Xeno Sagas Episode 1 & 2 for the DS." This is a great game that should have been brought to the US but never was so we have to import it. If it was region locked then we would have to mod the game or system to be able to play it.
Why should I not be allowed to play a really good game when someone else is? It's like kids on a play ground, "Bobby can see it but Jill can't because she's a girl," Or whatever.
So I do still hold to the fact that a lot of people do pirate due to the fact that that is the only way we would ever get to play some of these great games that are wrongfully held from us just because we were not born in that country that it was released in. Personally I think region locking is a form a discrimination.
Quote That guy: Japan gets a Wii channel where you can download TV programs and movies by using Wii points. That hasn't been confirmed for NA, and I doubt it will.
Quote dcj91x: Thanks ScariiboyChris for reinforcing my point. Most people don't hack and pirate games to steal they do it because that's the only way to get some of them.
yeah... and they are terrible at getting news (clues in the moon anyone? and then the one before that? we knew about those games they were hinting at long before they hinted at them).
But we should go back on topic shall we? I'll post alittle something on Youtube I found.

Let me get this straight... if I were to purchase a Japanese DSi, I would not be able to play DS games that I purchased in America?

Yep, but I bet there will be a hack soon. Since the whole sd card thing is in there, its only a matter of time till we see a Phantom Hourglass Hack
Any current DS game will work on any DS system (DSi or DSL) only new ones will be region locked along with system.

EBA is a non-sequeled piece of Cake compared to Ouendan.
We get Mother 2, but Japan gets 1,2, and 3.
Japan gets a Nintendogs clone with cats (Sega cats? Segats? Whatever). The US can't put a Sonic the hegehog hat on their cat now can they?
Japan gets DS TV, cable on the DS. You can't even import that because it works only on Japanese TV signals.
Japan gets a Wii channel where you can download TV programs and movies by using Wii points. That hasn't been confirmed for NA, and I doubt it will.
See? There is more though.
