A problem may be surfacing regarding compatibility between DS and DSi software. According to an unnamed development studio, one of their upcoming titles works perfectly fine on the DS, but experiences hang-ups and crashes on the DSi. Because of the non-workingness on the DSi, the game has been thrust into development limbo. Apparently, one of the new requirements for software to be licensed for use on the DS is that it's fully compatible with the DSi as well. The only exception to this are titles which require the use of the GBA slot for an expansion cart (Guitar Hero: On Tour, and the Nintendo DS Browser).
This has also been raising the question about games already released for the DS being compatible on the DSi. As it stands, Nintendo's official statement on the matter is "All DS titles are compatible with DSi, with the exception of those that require use of the GBA slot." Regardless of official stance, if word from the unnamed developer is true, then it serves as yet another reason to keep your DS after snagging a DSi.
I just found out something, The DSi needs SD cards for music playback! You know how hard SD cards are to find where I live? Hopefully they will become more abundant here once the DSi comes out.
Sorry, there is no EU release date yet! But, based on experience, it will probably come out after NA (NA release date: Nintendo says, "well into the calendar year 2009"). Do you know how big the Lite is selling in EU? That will probably reveal whether you are getting it before or after us. And, also based on experience, it will probably cost twice as much as it will in NA (NA price: $130-$140)!
P.S. DSi update! The outside will be made of a grittier version of the material on the inside, therefore preventing it from being all scratchy and smudgy on the outside.
Then you guys won't be getting it for a while. In PA, there are always DS Lites and Wiis in stock (But when I say in stock, I mean about 2 there that haven't been sold already).
Cryo, I think you may misunderstand. The region lock is with new game for the DSI not the DS games that are out now. It is also region locked for downloads. so even though they can use a lot of the features and still play ds games there is a lot of future stuff they will not be able to do.
Oh and I think that there is something else everyone is forgetting. You can already play movies, music, downloaded games, use an micro SD card and the internet on the ds. I have an R4 ds cart which alows me to do all that and it only cost $20 usd. The only thing that I can't really do with the ds that the ds I can is the special DSi Download shop. They even have a DSL camera that came with "Face Training." And you can buy other 3rd party ones that work gret.
I have an imported DSi (got it last week). It's sweet, but not worth the buy, since it has no English language option. I'll post pictures of it sooner or later, just remind me. The region-lock is effective only for DSi-only games and the DSi store.
as MeriiboyChristmas said, there is no exact release date yet for EU, but i have seen that it should be coming out around Spring 2009.
also, i have read different information about the DSi. some sources say the camera is 3 megapixels, others say it's a crappy 0.3 megapixels. i really hope it is 3 megapixels and not 0.3.
